Camp Director Lisa Free-Martin then gave an informative and “inspiring” presentation about the Texas Lions Camp located in Kerrville, TX.  The camp was chartered in 1949 and opened in 1953 to campers.  Since then, over 75,000 children with physical disabilities, Down syndrome and Type 1 diabetes have attended the camp.  The camp reinforces a “can do” philosophy in the participants as shown in this short video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxmgUtJasx4 . The camp is provided at no cost to the campers and its $2.7M annual budget is covered by Texas Lions annual dues, the Century Club, Endowment Fund, etc.  Also, for Amazon shoppers, 0.5% of the amount of your order can be assigned to The Texas Lions Camp when signing onto Amazon at:  https://smile.amazon.com/  The camp has 19 full time employees and 200 volunteers during the camp sessions.  About half of these volunteers come from countries other than the United States.  The 9 camp sessions this summer start on June 10th and continue weekly through the week of August 5th.  Our District is assigned to Sessions 4 & 5 (July 1 to 7 and July 8 to 14).  There are camp openings still available for both of these weeks.  Camper applications are available at:  http://www.lionscamp.com/
