Policing in the Tomball Community 2023.

Guest speaker at the Tomball Lions Club meeting on Friday, March 10th, will be Tomball Police Chief Jeff Bert. Chief Bert will discuss policing in the Tomball Community 2023. The meeting will be held at Martha's Mexican Restaurant on Alma Street in Tomball from 11:30 am to 1:00 PM and as usual, visitors are welcome to attend. Normal business will be conducted following a presentation by our speaker. Following the Club Meeting, the Board will convene for its monthly meeting from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

How to avoid a scam

Guest speaker at the Tomball Lions Club 2nd Friday meeting on May 12th will be Mrs. Mikelyn Corkran, Senior Branch Manager, VP, at Sunflower Bank in Tomball. Mrs. Corkran's presentation topic will be, "How to Avoid a Scam". In today's high-tech world, scams can come to us in many different forms including phone calls, text messages, emails, fake websites, etc. Therefore it is important to be able to recognize the signs of a scam and finally you will learn how to avoid a scam. The Tomball Lions Club meets from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at Martha's Mexican Restaurant & Grill on Alma Street in Tomball. HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR TRAVEL / VACATION PHOTOS

Guest speaker at the Tomball Lions Club 4nd Friday meeting on May 26th will be Douglas Burns an accomplished photographer and Director of Photography. His presentation will be on, "HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR TRAVEL / VACATION PHOTOS". These tips can be used by anyone using any camera with any level of experience. Mr. Burns has worked on projects with National Geographic TV documentaries, ESPN, TV personality Dr. Phil, basketball player Yao Ming, former boxing champion and TV pitchman George Foreman, major league baseball player Craig Biggio, and many others. He is a member of the Professional Photographers Guild of Houston and the Professional Photographer’s Association. He has a gift for working with families, children, and pets, and is passionate about capturing their essence in beautiful artwork. Update on current and planned activities in Harris County Precinct 3

Guest Speaker at the Tomball Lions Club meeting on June 9, 2023, will be Landon B. Reed - Assistant Director of Community Outreach for Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, P.E. Mr. Reed will provide an update on current and planned activities in Harris County Precinct 3 focusing on that part of the Precinct in and around Tomball. Landon B. Reed graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in History and a minor in Political Science. He worked 5 years for Harris County Precinct 4 Road & Bridge prior to becoming an Assistant Director of Community Outreach. Landon has served over a decade at the County for three Commissioner’s including Commissioner R. Jack Cagle and now Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, P.E.

Program Activities of Inspiring Possibilities

Guest speaker at the Tomball Lions Club meeting on Friday, June 23rd, will be Master Kris Lieder, Owner and Head Coach of All-Star Martial Arts in Cypress, Texas. He has been training in Tae Kwon Do since 1998 and began teaching at All-Star Martial Arts in 2005, working as a full-time instructor since 2008. The organization created Inspiring Possibilities, a non-profit, in 2010 after realizing the need for extracurricular activities for the special needs individuals within our community. Master Lieder will discuss the program activities that Inspiring Possibilities has available for this special group of individuals. The Tomball Lions Club meets from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM at Martha's Mexican Restaurant, 1025 Alma Street in Tomball on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month. Texas Lions Camp, Kerrville, TX

Her presentation will highlight the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas. Lion Shelia Thomas was born and raised in Pasadena TX. After graduating from high school she joined the US Army where she served as a Specialist in the Finance Corps whose motto is, “TO SUPPORT AND SERVE.” It is a motto she continues to live up to today. Shelia is married to Lion Aeren (Hilda) Thomas and has two sons: Austin and Wesley. She says her greatest joy is spending time with her 5 Grandchildren. Shelia joined Conroe Noon Lions Club in June 2014 but, she says it wasn’t until attending Texas Lions Camp for the first time in May 2015 that she felt like she knew what being a Lion was all about. Camper in 1953 reflects on experiences at Texas Lions Camp

Guest speaker at the Tomball Lions Club meeting on Friday, August 11th, will be Richard Binckley. Mr. Binckley was an attendee of the first Texas Lions Camp season in 1953 and a polio survivor. He will reflect on his experiences at the Camp and how they influenced his life going forward. The Texas Lions Camp (TLC) in Kerrville, Texas, opened to campers in June, 1953, and since then has served over 70,000 campers. TLC's Mission: to provide, without charge, a camp for children with physical disabilities, diabetes and cancer from the State of Texas, regardless of race, religion or national origin. Lions Eye Bank of Texas

Speaker at the Tomball Lions Club meeting on Friday, August 25, will be Tomball Lions Club President Paul Hancock. Lion Paul is currently Treasurer of the Executive Committee of the Lions Eye Bank of Texas and will provide Club members and guests a presentation on the Lions Eye Bank which will be an introduction to a tour of the Eye Bank being planned for later this month. Lion Paul Hancock joined the Tomball Lions Club on March 6, 2018. He has served as Lion Tamer, Director and Officer positions in his club. Paul became interested in the Lions Eye Bank of Texas during an Eye Bank presentation in early 2019. Paul expressed his interest and was subsequently elected as a Trustee of the Lions Eye Bank of Texas effective July 1, 2019. Paul served as a Trustee for three years. Effective July 1, 2022, Paul was nominated and elected as Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Lions Eye Bank of Texas and is currently Treasurer of the Executive Committee effective July 1, 2023. Paul has served each year on the Bowl-A-Thon Committee. During the 2022 Fiscal Year, Paul also chaired the Fundraising Committee of the Lions Eye Bank of Texas. Several outreach presentations have been made by Paul during his time with the Lions Eye Bank. His presentations provide education and awareness of eye health and safety as well as the importance of the cornea donation registry. The Tomball Lions Club meets at Martha's Mexican Restaurant, 1025 Alma Street in Tomball from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings.

Mayor Lori will provide an update on State of the City including current statistics on residential, commercial and industrial growth in Tomball and general growth projections going forward.
