Lion Mike introduced speakers Lion PDG Jim Noone and Lion Becky Noone and gave a detailed of their backgrounds and positions in the Lions over the years. Pictured above from left to right are: Lion Don Pribilski, Lion Becky Noone, Lion Jim Noone and President Lion Mike Halbach.

Both PDG Jim Noone and Lion Becky Noone served in District 2-S1 (Beaumont area) initially in varied positions, including District Governor in 1975-1976 and charter member of the Vidor and Nederland Clubs.  They moved in 2016 to the Magnolia area and joined the Magnolia Lions Club that year.  Currently, they each serve as officers in the Magnolia Lions Club (Jim as 2nd VP and Becky as Secretary).  In addition, Jim is currently serving as District 2-S2 GMA Coordinator for membership retention and Becky is currently serving as District 2-S2 GSA Coordinator.

Lion PDG Jim Noone spoke about member retention and recruitment.  The following are some highlights of his discussion:
  • Need to call all members who have left the club to inquire as to why they left;
  • Try to get them back or perhaps transfer to another club;
  • Recruit members’ spouses as they normally are very familiar to what is happening in the club;
  • Recruit members from law enforcement groups;
  • Recruit members from other groups;
  • Recruit from neighborhood, church, other;
  • Important thing is to Ask; all they can tell you is “no.”

Lion Becky Noone spoke about serving.  The following are some highlights of her discussion:
  • Being visible in your club;
  • Be involved in Lion activities--small and big;
  • Call Texas Lions Camp to inquire as to what your club can sponsor;
  • Volunteer for the Texas Lions Camp work days;
  • Work with your club to hold fundraisers and be more visible in the community with events such as pancake sales, spaghetti dinners, barbecues, etc;
  • Flags for military recognition days, such as Veterans and Memorial Days;
  • Visit other clubs to meet other Lions as well as to see what activities they are involved in;
  • Visit and read in schools;
  • Vision screening in schools—coordinate with school nurses.

Both speakers gave an inspirational outlook for Lionism, serving others, and retention and recruitment pointers.
