Highlights from the meeting are as follows:
- Is a fifth generation family from the Tomball area;
- Has 26 years of service with the Tomball Police Department;
- Funds donated by our Lions Club (and other organizations) used for “Shop With A Cop” program each Christmas season—20 to 25 needy kids, shop at local Walmart and each gets about $200 to spend;
- Project handled by off-duty police force and support staff;
- Explorer Post sponsored for high school teens interested in a law enforcement career;
- Our funds go toward both of the above projects; if desired we can designate which project we want to help with.
- Discussed police force in general — have 47 sworn in policemen and policewomen, plus their support staff, plus volunteers.
- Crime rate in the Tomball general area is not as heavy as in areas closer to Houston, mostly thefts/break-ins;
- Spoke of some hot spots where thefts occur (parking lots at Tomball Hospital, Lowes, other areas near 249 Expressway for quick escape;
- Spoke of Safety Team of 4 volunteers at Salem Lutheran Church, help with crowd control, medical issues and security.
